Brooke Lanier Gallery Hosts an Open House
After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Brooke Lanier spent a year in Italy and later earned her Masters of Fine Arts degree in Painting fro the Tyler School of Art. She's roamed the world; showing her art in Rome, Prague, and across the United States; most notibly the Smithsonian Institute's S. Dillon Ripley Center and the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Her latest show, Going Away Without Moving opens on Thursday and is widely inspired by the artists own sense of adventure. "I took the title from an eight year old friend of mine" Lanier said, "He was going on vacation, but not going away. For me, it's an internal thing. You can go away without leaving where you are. The landscapes have contemplative meanings."
While the official number of pieces to be on display has yet to be finalized, the show's work has taken more than a year and a half to prepare and most of them are very large. "You're put in your place" she says, referring to the peripherally expansive pieces, "But, in a good way."
Thursday and Friday's "Going Away Without Moving" showcase is free and open to the public on the 4th Floor of the Camac Center — adjoining to the 12th Street Gym in Center City Philadelphia. (201 Camac Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107.) Light refreshments will be served with informal artist talks. Can't make the dates? Contact Brooke for a private showing.
